Now in Beta: Narrator Voice Replicas on ACX

Posted on July 9, 2025

[Updated July 9, 2025]: As of July 9, participating narrators using voice replicas can receive compensation in the form of a per-finished-hour fee or a blended payment structure including a per-finished-hour fee and a share of royalties. These options are offered in addition to the royalty share-based compensation model included at launch. Rights holders can now skip the audition phase and make direct offers for voice replica narration.

Audible continues to hear from members of our creator community who are interested in using emerging technologies to make more audio content available to listeners. There is a vast catalog of books that does not yet exist in audio and, as we explore ways to bring more books to life on Audible, we're committed to thoughtfully balancing the interests of authors, narrators, publishers, and listeners. We're taking measured steps to test new technologies to help expand our catalog, and this week we are inviting a small group of narrators to participate in a U.S.-only beta enabling them to create and monetize replicas of their own voices using AI-generated speech technology. This beta offering will empower participants to expand their production capabilities for high-quality audiobooks, generate new business by taking on more projects simultaneously and increase their earning potential. Narrators continue to maintain control of the projects they use their voices for and will remain central to the production process. How it works: During the beta, participants will be able to create a voice replica for free. Participants will submit a sample voice recording, which ACX will turn into a high-quality replica of the participant’s own voice. As with all other ACX projects, narrators always choose the projects they want to audition for and accept—using either their voice replica or live performance. If their voice replica is selected by a rights holder, the narrator will use ACX’s production tools to manage and review the final narration, editing for pronunciation errors, pacing, and more. This tool allows narrators to maintain their high standards of quality by enabling detailed editing. Narrators can choose on a title-by-title basis whether to be compensated via a per-finished-hour rate, a royalty share model, or a royalty share plus model, designed to fairly reflect the work involved in creating and managing voice replica productions. Audible will not separately use a narrator's voice replica for any content without their approval. Titles narrated using voice replicas will be labelled in the narrator field of the title’s listing and detail page. As our catalog grows through new production offerings, we are continuing to enhance and refine discovery capabilities across our catalog to make it easier for customers to find their next favorite listen.
