Performance Notes
A generic voiceover reel I put together a while back for getting freelance work on fiverr.com. It's not targeted at audiobooks, but it gives a sense of my normal reading voice.
My full name is Alex Rupp-Coppi. I started getting into audio production as a hobbyist around 2010, and I've been reading out loud to folks in my family for about as long as I can remember. I'm at the point where I'd like to stick the production and the reading together, and see if I can go pro.
I just moved to New York City, and I record out of my apartment on an
Audio-Technica AT875R condenser shotgun mic. So far my sound treatment is just a bunch of moving blankets and a pop filter, but I'm working on getting some acoustic panels. I live in a pretty quiet neighborhood, and even if recording conditions on a given day aren't perfect, through a combination of noise-gating, equalizing, and compressing in post, I can usually get a take without background noise that sounds professional on consumer-grade speakers. I monitor live through Audio-Technica headphones, and edit/test playback by cycling through headphones, laptop speakers, and an Altec-Lansing iMT620 stereo.
A bit about my experience: I come from a teaching, public speaking, and theater background, and I've taken voice lessons with an opera singer and a speech pathologist. If I had to qualify my training, I'd say it's a combination of on-the-job and quasi-professional.
