2 Women from Gnosis

Category : Mysteries & Thrillers
Language : English
Gender : Male
Accent : American-Southern
Vocal Style : Male narrating a female part
Performance Notes
I thought I'd show off a bit of my character work from Gnosis (completed at the end of April 2012). This is an interview between a female Lexington homicide cop and woman who with her date discovered 2 dead bodies 29 years ago. So this is me doing women conversing.

Performance Notes
Towards the end of this sample are a couple of the male character voices I used in Gnosis. Not the quirkiest, though, and none of the females. That's another sample. Edited together a couple of chapters to give a feel of the action.

Here's the beginning of a chapter that I recently recorded as an audition.

Lately I've been kept pretty busy narrating short pieces for thinkCERCA, and education company based here in Chicago. I've been doing audio books since 2011. I enjoy the challenge of creating distinct character voices and the challenge of acting out the scenes and dialog of fiction. With non-fiction the key is to say things intelligently, with sincerity and interest to make them interesting to the audience. Post production engineering is an even more focused task -- rewarding when the production is done and ready to show off. I am a lifelong singer and avid reader. Aside from my family, books and music have always been the most important things in my life.
Just wrapped up The Wonder Jungle, a sweet novel originally published in 1974. Previously: A21, March 2014. Fall 2013, voice over narrations for educational software product. Tomato Can Comeback, August 2013. Forces of Nature, June 2013. Time Heals Everything, August 2012. Short stories Love Potion and A Road Painted in Scarlet, May 2012. Gnosis, April 2012. Martin Faber, the Story of a Criminal by William Gilmore Simms, November 2011.
From a listener review of Time Heals everything: What does John Podulka bring to the story that you wouldn't experience if you just read the book? John Podulka brings the main character - Nick to a vibrant life. He does a great job as Ash as well...and he's brilliant in quite a few spots as Kat. (I'm really delighted that she thinks I was brilliant doing a female character!)
