My first book for Audible is one I wrote myself - a work of investigative journalism, with a comedic edge, about Mormons and polygamy. I've also narrated a Channel Four documentary about polygamy (not that I'm obsessed or anything). That's my main job: journalism. I've been at it for 15+ years now, and I'm presently the US Correspondent for Esquire (UK), and a regular contributor to the Telegraph, Details, Marie Claire, the Observer, among others. My background: I'm an Englishman, a Londoner, with Indian parents, who studied at Cambridge, and has lived in Los Angeles for 12 years, and India for two (Bombay and Delhi). My natural voice is BBC, authoritative and articulate, but my personality tilts towards comedy. And thanks to my job and my travels, I've associated with hundreds of outlandish characters from all walks of life - a huge cast that I can draw from for my voice work. Accents: BBC Posh (aristocratic) Cockney "Chav" - the west indian tinged youth dialect of southern England Manchester Liverpool Scottish (Edinburgh) Ireland (Dublin) Indian (Bombay and Delhi, both high society and middle class)
"Secrets & Wives: The Hidden World of Mormon Polygamy" (Audible) - July 2013 "The Man with 80 Wives" (Channel Four documentary) - July 2006
Nominated for PPA: Best Magazine Writer of the Year 2012 Reviews of Secrets & Wives: The Hidden World of Mormon Polygamy - "a riveting read for both Bhattacharya's wry and heartfelt style and the nature of the material" (Library Journal) - "unblinking candor and disarming humor" (Huffington Post) - "irreverent and whipsmart... personal, profound and grippingly entertaining" (New York Times bestselling author, Caroline Leavitt) Reviews of "The Man With 80 Wives" Glasgow Herald: "He has a nice manner for a documentary TV interrogator, does Sanjiv: slightly bumbling, ingenuous, soft-spoken, wide-eyed, innately self-critical."
