Matthew Ian Welch is an experienced actor, whose credits span a wide range of performance styles. Matthew has appeared in multiple national television commercials, was nominated for “Best Supporting Actor” in the 2016 Los Angeles 48-hour Film Festival, has performed numerous roles with the leading repertory theater in Southern California (A Noise Within), starred in the world premiere of Hail Poetry, was featured in the critically-acclaimed West Coast premiere of Joe DiPietro's “The Last Romance,” co-hosted the FM radio show Monday Night Live (KSPC 88.7), and performs regularly in LA's vibrant improv comedy scene. A lover of new works in particular, Matthew has originated more than 12 theatrical roles. In addition, Matthew is a classically-trained baritone, who has sung with over 50 ensembles and performed more than 40 musical roles, including performances at Disney Concert Hall, The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Zipper Hall, The Ambassador Auditorium, The Broad Theater, and many of the region's finest theatrical venues. He regularly lends his “heartbreakingly powerful baritone” (LA Weekly) and narration talents to productions across the Southland. Matthew was educated at Pomona College, one of the nation's premier liberal arts colleges. After four years of intensively studying foreign languages, philosophy, literature, science, and economics, in California and abroad, Matthew graduated in May 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. Since then, he has worked as writing specialist for some of Los Angeles' most demanding law firms, including five years with the largest immigration law firm in the world, Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen, and Loewy. Matthew currently runs an independent recording studio, specializing in recording vocalists, audiobook narrators, and classical musicians. Matthew's signal chains incorporate state-of-the-industry conversion equipment as well as highly customized microphones, preamplifiers, analog EQ, and compressors, built by hand, by Matthew, himself. Based on his expertise in the field of audio engineering, Matthew was asked by Matt McGlynn, curator of the largest microphone internet database in the world (RecordingHacks.com), to represent the boutique microphone manufacturer, Roswell Pro Audio, at the 2016 Audio Engineering Society convention. As an audiobook narrator, Matthew's rich, yet sympathetic natural speaking voice is complimented by an ever-growing catalog of accurately honed accents and original character voices. Matthew's work draws from years of acting experience, classical vocal training, his distinguished education, and expertise in audio engineering, to bring aural life and depth to the written word.
