Here are 3 samples from books I have recorded professionally to demonstrate classic SciFi, Fantasy in the Woods of Old England, and more contemporary Sci Fi/Adventure for young adults. I create characters to make the story come to life for the listeners; this draws them into the story and the action. And I add a touch of the voices suggested by the authors to give my reads a more cinematic feel.

Here are two samples from plays I have recorded professionally, showing a variety of characters and accents, ages and genders, in order to bring the play to life for the listener. In this way, listeners can truly get the playwright's intent, and feel as if they are actually in the audience at the theater.

Here are some clips of Spanish Educational Material that I've recorded for classroom/home learning use. They range from High School Level to Graduate Studies, and demonstrate both my clean Standard American English and Standard Neutral Spanish reading voices. This is important so that students can learn the correct phonetic pronunciation of both languages.

Here are some samples from books I've recorded for the Teen demographic, that show how I can adapt my reading style to better bring to life the world and the characters these authors have created. You can hear my ability to vocally embody both male and female characters, from different places and times, and of different ages, and how I can convey their emotions with empathy. I also demonstrate how I can deliver different parts of a book with the energy and rhythm the story requires.

Here are some excerpts from books I've recorded, which show the informative and professional yet warm and accessible reading style for which I am requested. I have heard back from my listeners that when listening to non-fiction or educational materials, they find that a narrator who sounds interested and engaged is far more interesting to listen to.

Sylvia Roldán Dohi began her artistic career at the age of 10 in Hollywood, CA, voicing a cartoon character on the long-running kid's show Captain Kangaroo. She's constantly called for a wide array of voice-over work in English, Spanish and both languages combined. She has recorded many audiobooks including Guia Para Escribir Propuestos, Angels In America, Vampire Academy and Dune: The Machine Crusades, and was a top reader for the New York office of the nationally renowned organization Learning Ally (formerly Reading for the Blind & Dyslexic), also giving workshops to train their narrators. She can be heard on commercials, (Lyrica, Siempre Mujer Magazine), Medical Narration (Medcom's Pediatric Nursing series), Corporate training (Lowe's Diversity in Spanish and Captaris Partner Marketing in English), and Educational Presentations (Columbia University's Anti-HIV Program). Sylvia is the narrator for the MUSEUM OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK's Timescapes presentation in Spanish and is even the voice of definitive pronunciation for the Merriam-Webster Standard Latin American Spanish Dictionary. In her 30+ years in the business, she has also hosted live webcasts (Novartis Pharmaceuticals), provided voices for documentaries (NBC Dateline), bilingual TV credits (PBS' Cyberchase) and served as an on and/or off-camera product spokesperson (United Way). After being featured in musicals such as Cats, West Side Story, Can Can and the Spanish Company of A Chorus Line, she appeared on Broadway for the entire ten-year run of Miss Saigon, and then played the Roller Derby Queen in the Off-Broadway show Roller Derby-The Musical. She's still getting residual checks from Law & Order: SVU, and the cult film Reform School Girls. Sylvia has been lucky enough to work with celebrities such as Alice Cooper, the Carpenters, Clarence Clemons, Dom DeLuise and Charo. She was honored by the New York Newspaper El Diario/La Prensa as an Outstanding Woman of Hispanic Heritage, and has a BA in Theater from SUNY Empire State. Sylvia records both out of her own home studio, and has great working relationships with studios around the NYC area. She has been approved to narrate children's books (K-12) and Spanish language books by Learning Ally. One of her books was on backorder due to Sylvia's skill at telling stories in a way that engages listeners of all ages, and rendering even complex non-fiction material in a friendly but still authoritative way. Her voice is particularly suited for Bilingual Educational Books and Stories, since she speaks fluent and accent-free Spanish and English. Sylvia has successfully produced a few books for ACX, and aims to provide author satisfaction by working closely with the authors of the books she records, provided they are around and so choose. With her many years of acting experience and gift for bringing stories to life, she provides the highest level of engaging narration with professional audiobook engineering experience.

J.R. Rain on 5 different books: Great work!! Loved all the voices! "I really really liked it. I have no changes that I can think of. "Got it! Listened to it! Loved it! "Ha! I love it!! "You rocked it, Sylvia!!! Linda Biagi: Thank you so much for all your work on Happily Even After. Doing a QA listen of KM722 A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE. Just wanted to recognize and thank [you] … for a great read and the extra time on the voices. I listened to way more than I needed to. Ines at The Foundation Center: If at all possible … have Sylvia read the remaining chapters … She is the best reader. Nancy M. Straight: Wow, just wow!  Your audition gave me chills, literally - it was EXCEPTIONAL!! Dianna Love: I've only found a couple that I've liked so far and you're one of them … few like yourself who I feel have a natural storytelling ability and are not just doing a voice over or saying the words. :) Nancy Madore: You did a wonderful job!  I chose the most awkward selection I could find in order to get a feel for how the voices would sound.
