Persuasion by Jane Austen, Chapter 19

Category : Classics
Language : English
Gender : Female
Accent : Canadian-English
Vocal Style : Feminine
Performance Notes
Another older sample of my work -done several microphones and computers ago!- this was recorded in 2008. I love Austen, the regency, and romances generally. My crisp enunciation works well for these formal, sweet recordings where there is social commentary and an active inner life within the characters. "All the privilege I claim for my own sex ... is that of loving longest, when existence or when hope is gone." In persuasion, her last novel, Austen explores the theme of postponed but enduring love, delayed by class boundaries and excessive pride. Anne Elliot, the story's aged (27 year old) heroine, suffers from a decision that was forced upon her several years ago—to break off a relationship with Capn. Frederick Wentworth, the man she deeply loved. As Austen examines the causes and consequences of this action, she sketches for us the social complexities of being part of the upper-middle-class in England at the beginning of the nineteenth century.

Art of War by Sun Tzu - Part 9, The Army on the March

Accent : Canadian-English
Vocal Style : Authoritative
Performance Notes
I recorded The Art of War way back in 2009. At the time, my equipment was basic and my sound editing skills undeveloped (I now have a much better microphone and post-production know-how), yet it remains my most popular recording, with over 10 million views on the Internet Archive https://archive.org/details/art_of_war_librivox and nearly 4 million views on YouTube, with many positive comments about my narration pace and voice quality. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7rhovBK_eA&lc=UggCnlwFO4ZeqngCoAEC.8GqA2JvGQof9AXs3BmcGu4 This work has also been sampled for use in, of all things, a metal song by the Swedish Heavy Metal band Sabaton.

Shakespeare's Sonnet #001

Category : Drama & Poetry
Language : English
Gender : Female
Accent : American-General American
Vocal Style : Resonant
Performance Notes
A sample of the Bard's own work - Shakespeare wrote 154 sonnets, discussing love, beauty, politics, and mortality. I've recorded them all - here is a sample of the first in the collection. "From fairest creatures we desire increase, That thereby beauty's rose might never die..." My voice is well suited to reading classics, including drama, poetry and other works that require modulation, projection, clarity and authority to be understood.

A short 30 second clip done for a radio piece

Moira Fogarty is a voiceover artist and audiobook narrator. Her recording of Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War” has been downloaded over 6 million times from the Internet Archive, viewed millions of times on YouTube, and has been sampled in songs by Swedish power metal band Sabaton and ambient electronica by Cryxuss (because her voice is flexible like that). She is also a popular reader of public domain audiobooks for LibriVox. My live read of Jane Austen’s “Pride & Prejudice” is on YouTube (see Credits). One chapter a day was recorded from Sept 1 to Oct 31, 2016. Listen and enjoy! If you like what you hear, please let me know here or on my Facebook page, or hire me to read for you. Video game voiceovers, textbooks, periodicals, complex technical manuals… I love a challenge, and my rates are reasonable.

“Moira Fogarty has done an excellent job in presenting this work. The sound quality itself is of the highest quality, however her enunciation and the timber of her voice, including her vocal range, makes this a pleasure to hear. As Sun Tzu's Art of War can be a great temptation to make masculine, and authoritative Ms. Fogarty's straight forward and clear reading allows these ancient thoughts to enter the center of the consciousness. If you're familiar with this work, her presentation is worth revisiting it for the pure enjoyment of the experience. My compliments to Ms. Fogarty.” “The narrator was beyond fabulous. I love the different accents she does and how appropriate to have a Canadian narrating this story.”
